Who Was Alex Gonzalez?
Alex Gonzalez was our beloved son, brother, cousin, friend, guitar instructor and talented musician. A bright, compassionate, and driven young man whose energy lit up every room he entered. Whether mentoring classmates, supporting the local musicians community, or sharing a laugh with friends, Alex inspired those around him to lead with heart and purpose.
Fund Story
Helping Musicians Succeed beyond music
Established in 2019, The Alex Gonzalez Memorial Scholarship Fund aims to preserve Alex’s memory, musical legacy and provide financial assistance to aspiring music students graduating from the Greenwood, South Carolina Public Schools who are pursuing a music performance or education degree as a major and/or a minor in business or art sciences related fields. To date, the fund has assisted 3 students reach their academic goals.

🎓 The Scholarship
Each year, the Alex Gonzalez Memorial Scholarship Fund awards a scholarship to graduating high school seniors who demonstrate academic potential, leadership, community involvement, and a positive and can do attitude in life.
Eligibility Criteria:
- Graduating high school seniors from GHS or EHS, that have been accepted at an in state (SC) accredited higher education institution and pursue a degree in music performance or education.
- Aspiring students should complete and submit the AGMSF Application 2 months before the start of their first college semester. A complete application must also include an academic transcript (including standardized SAT or ACT test scores), two letters of recommendations from HS teachers or a work supervisor.
- Selection Criteria
- The Scholarship Committee will award a scholarhip based on the applicant’s financial need, community involvement/ service and academic record (including grade point average and standardized school aptitude exams).
- Recipient Responsibilities
- The majority of communication between recipients and the scholarship administrators will take place via email. Recipients are required to regularly check their email and notify the committee of any changes to their contact or academic information.
- Confirmed recipients are expected to acknowledge acceptance of the award promptly via e-mail.
- Recipients must provide details of all other scholarship they are receiving. Total awards for any given semester cannot exceed the stated cost for attendance at that institution.
- Recipients must complete enough credits to be recognized as a full-time student in each semester an award is made. Likewise, a satisfactory minimum grade point average value of 2.5/4 must be maintained for scholarship eligibility for the upcoming semester.
- No later than 4 weeks after finishing each semester, the recipient is required to submit via e-mail a 500 word essay describing the experience, challenges faced and how they overcame them along with a copy of their grade transcripts. Failure to do so is an immediate disqualification from future scholarship awards.
Award: $500.00 scholarship
